Decision Square
To reach the Great Learning stage, Mega Learning has introduced the “Corporate Projects” in its learning process.

Most of the time, corporate projects are run by distributed teams. Running a project face-to-face has become too expensive and ineffective. IT and IS solutions are available to run project remotely but the technology does not solve all the problems distributed teams may experience. Furthermore, technology itself may be a barrier for completing projects remotely. With its “corporate project” learning solution, Mega Learning provide a clear answer to project teams’ needs. To support the learning solution, Mega Learning has also developed a conceptual groupware system called “Decision Square”.

Khoshafian and Buckiewicz have defined groupware as “Any computer system which enables groups of workers to collaborate for some common purpose of task, any system that helps collaborative and cooperative work”.

What do we mean by “conceptual”?

It is not our intention to build new software having the same characteristics as those already on the market such as Lotus or Share Point. We have rather built a simple collaborative and cooperative platform that enables the participants to reach their project’s objectives better and faster than by using traditional tools such as e-mail. We also illustrate the processes and best practices inherent to remoteness.

We argue that groupware is useful in supporting current day-to-day organizational processes, rather than as an agent of radical organizational change. We also argue that the human, social, cultural, behavioral and organizational dimensions are more important than the technological ones.

Within Decision Square, any project is split in a various number of tasks or topics. The project processes and tools are also clearly defined.

Examples of processes and tools are:

  • Clearly defined goal of the project
  • Expected outcome, deliverables
  • Communication between the team members, internally and externally
  • Schedule
  • Organization and roles definition (coach, team leader, sponsor, facilitator…)

    Each task or topic has the following characteristics:

  • Clearly defined purpose
  • Defined owner
  • Template proposal for information sharing (summary)
  • File upload
  • Links to external resources and web sites
  • Messaging system
  • Archive system
